1988: Japan. Study tour to Kyoto to learn more about Japanese traditional music.
Primary course in Japanese tea ceremony and private lessons on the Koto zither.
1997: Japan. Study tour to Hokkaido, recordings of the mukkuri (Jew's harp) among the Ainu minority. The tour was funded by the Sasakawa Foundation.
1998: Austria. Invited to participate at The 3rd International Jew's Harp Congress and Festival in Molln.
2001: Kyrgyzstan. Study tour to learn more about the similarities of the temir khomus and the Norwegian munnharpe.
2002: Festival and program director for the 4th International Jew’s Harp Festival and Congress in Rauland, Norway.
2003: Japan. Hospitant at the Midorikai study of the Japanese tea ceremony.Private lessons on the Japanese zither: Koto.
Invited guest artist at an International concert in Tokyo.
2003: Kyrgyzstan. Field recordings of artists on the temir and zhygach ooz komus in Jalal Abad, Issyk Kyl and Bishkek regions, together with Leo Tadagawa, Japan.
2004: Bali, Indonesia. Studies of the Balinese genggong Jews harp.
2005: Yakutia. Round trip to villages, meeting virtuoso players on the Yakut khomus, participant at an international concert in Yakutsk.
The tour was funded by The Norwegian Ministry of Culture.
2006: Bulgaria. Invited guest artist at the first International Folk Festival, organized by the Bisserova sisters(worldwide known singers).
2006: Leader of the folk artist group representing Norway at the 5th International Jew’s Harp Festival and Congress in Amsterdam.
